The Rev. Raymond B. Young is a native of the Pineland Section of McClellanville, SC. , where he was born the seventh of eight children of Mr. Edward Young and Mrs. Mary Young. Despite having a very bad speech impediment he couldn’t stop talking (LOL). To everyone’s amazement he came to realize that even then God was preparing him for preaching.
After graduation from Lincoln High School in McClellanville, SC, he joined the U.S. Army. Upon leaving the military he returned home only to find that the Sunday School Department as well as Bible Study at his Church (St. James A.M.E. ) was obsolete. After being inspired by God and receiving permission from the Pastor, he went to work re-establishing these two areas of ministry. Through the help of God and his humble spirit this quest was very successful.
He began a new career as a truck driver. About 20 years ago he met and fell in love with the former Ms. Vera Thompson. They have two daughters, one son-in-law and three beautiful grandchildren.
A year after being married he decided he could no longer continue running from his calling to preach. He became one of the assistant preachers at St. James AME Church, where he taught Sunday School and Bible Study. About a year and a half the Lord moved upon his heart to leave the AME Church. He joined First See Wee Missionary Baptist Church in Awendaw, SC. While at First See Wee he was compelled to further his education by enrolling in the Morris College Seminary Extension. He successfully completed the program and graduated.
About six years later he was compelled to join Jehovah Baptist Church in Bonneau, SC. Three years after joining the Deacons of Rock Hill Baptist Church approached him in need of a 2nd Sunday preacher. He consented and shortly thereafter the position of pastor became vacant. After submitting his resume this church prayed and sought God’s guidance. After being informed that he was elected pastor by an overwhelming number of the votes, life has been amazing ever since.
To God Be The Glory!!!!!!
